Not a problem, just a challenge.
You guys, summer staff are dropping like flies. Counselors, leadership, everyone. People are being pulled out of guest reg to be counselors this week because so many have gone home sick. Leadership have been sent home sick. What an awful way we are being attacked right now-- but the battle is already won, so no worries.
Sydney went to the doctor yesterday and somehow came back more sick than she was when she left for the health center Sunday night. She got sent home for the week so I am now senior of H-Hut. We were supposed to have 2 wrangers with us, but only just got one of them today because she has been in quarentine for pinkeye all weekend. Kate, the guest reg girl that lives in our cabin with us, got pulled out to be a counselor this week, so she had to move out. We are pumped about having the wrangers with us, because they are awesome, but totally bummed that we are spending our last week at Sky without Sydney and Kate.
Rodeo camp is also kind of stressful when we do regular activities, because the counselors are the only ones actually trained on stuff, so the wrangers sort of just help and follow our lead. Tim, one of the guys counselors got pulled out of Rodeo to go back to regular Sky 1 because they lost so many guys there to illness this week too. So now, we have like a billion wrangers and only 3 actual counselors (Kaity, Andrew and I) for the week. Not a problem, just a challenge.
What is the first thing I do as senior of my cabin? -- stinkin' look down at my backpack and realize I DON'T HAVE THE RESCUE MEDS for my campers which this week include an EPIPEN and INHALERS. So I leave my girls with Sam, one of the wranglers, and go on this mad search for the meds. I remember cliping them onto my backpack (they are in a red fanny pack, jealous?) so I'm thinking they probably fell off somewhere. So I get back to my cabin to look for them there, and my LEADERSHIP is in my cabin disinfecting it from when Sydney came in to get her stuff to go home. So then I have to explain to them that I'm in my cabin because I stinkin' can't find my RESCUE MEDS for my campers because I am irresponsible and don't have them. ...AWESOME. Don't worry, I found them and all is well now.
...incidently one of the leadership that was in my cabin disinfecting it yesterday was one of the ones that ended up sick this morning, SO I'm thinking we should re-disinfect. Oh, brother.
My girls are still proving to be as phenomenal as I think they are. One of them, she is nine, is glued to me I think and I dig it. It makes me miss last summer. We were walking last night and she was holding my hand and she says, "You know what?" so I say, "What?" and she goes, "I think it's good that we have someone in our cabin that can't see." So I look at her and say, "Yeah? Why do you think so?" and she says, "Because it teaches us what it is like to be different and how to help people." That's what's up. She is precious and likes to watch me write letters because she likes my handwriting. She sits in my lap and holds my hand and spends every activity saying, "HALEY! Watch this!" so I watch her waterslide or run the barrels or do a flip underwater. She prays and reads her devotional every night before bed. Did I ever tell you how much I love summer camp?
I think out of everything, when camp is over I will miss this week the most. I am lovin' it and all the ways I can see the Lord working. I am so excited to have time to write about all of them on here when this week is over.
