Save the trees, that's where camp is.
So I know that I told you I'd get better at this, but I still seem to be not updating...
This week!
Session 1 and camp has officially started! HOWEVER, because public school like to keep their kids in class until FOREVER, camp is less than half full this week, meaning that I don't have campers. I was super bummed to find this out, but no worries. I took the first half of the week to go to Austin and take care of some stuff for summer school. While there, fun adventures with LCP, Maranda, Luis and Cham, and dinner with a few more.
I got back to camp on Wednesday night and have been doing work crew stuff since then. We have been helping with night events, making phone calls, painting things, cleaning things a so on. Today we straight up cleaned a school bus. Wash, wax, and the entire inside. It was pretty legit. :) And I for sure broke a huge poster frame this week too. That was also pretty legit- except not at all.
It has been nice to get to spend time with my co-counselors this week though. We have sufficiently decorated our cabin (although we still have things to do!) and have had fun times with watching movies on a laptop in our cabin each night.
It has been fun to be here this week, even if I don't have campers, because I have gotten to see/interact with a lot of my girls from last year. On Sunday, because I didn't have campers coming, I helped Rockwall (my old cabin) with luggage. Lauren (who was one of my co's last year) is the Senior this year, so it was fun to get to be back in the old cabin. They have a few girls that were also in Rockwall last summer, and it was neat to hang out with them and see them again. I think they were all confused that I was there though, because they all thought I was their counselor, and then I just left... And I see them now at the end of the week and call them by name, and that confuses them even more.
My Timothy is also here this week! Her name is Kate and she is precious! She was in my cabin first session last summer, and we have been pen pals ever since. She writes me letters all the time about school and trips she has taken with her family and books she is reading. She sends me pictures and asks me questions and I write her back. It has been so neat to keep up with her throughout this year and to see her again at camp this summer! While I haven't gotten to spend a lot of time with her, she has given me lots of hugs and promises to write me a long letter when she gets home about her week.
Today I made a personal breakthrough I think. I was in the camp store (counselor appreciation day- 25% off our staff discount of 25% off = 43% off... LET'S BUY EVERYTHING.) and I was talking with a guy who goes to A&M and we got on the subject of which school is better Texas or A&M. Which has not happened to me this summer near as much as last summer, so that is good in intself! But anyway, he was arguing with me about who has the better traditions and why A&M is better, and I looked at him and said, "I could sit here and argue with you all day about why I think that Texas is better, but I'm not going to change your mind, so what is the point?" Some things just aren't worth arguing about, and I have learned that conversations like this usually just leave me frustrated and upset, so I decided to just not go there. Done and done. :)
Not a ton has happened this week other than working on projects and hugging old campers. I DID however get a letter from THOMAS, which pretty much made my entire week. I lovev getting mail from people I never expected to get mail from. AND he apparently reads my blog. Which makes me excited, because I think he's one of only like, three people that do. But whatevs, it's all good. :) (Thanks, Thomas for making my week better.)
Sorry I'm boring this week, I promise I will have campers soon and lots of things to tell you about! I think I get Rodeo camp next week, which will be an adventure for sure. :) For now, I will enjoy my last few minutes in the staff lounge before dinner and whatever Friday night fun camp has in store. :)
